Yet another public holiday is right ahead of us, as our country is gearing up to celebrate its 68th Republic Day on 26 January. This day is celebrated with great honour and splendour, every year since 1950.
Almost two and half years of independence, on the above mentioned day, India finally became a sovereign, democratic, republic and the Indian Constitution came into effect from this day onwards. To celebrate this milestone event in the journey of our nation, Government of India declared this a national holiday.
The main celebration is hosted in New Delhi, the national capital where our Armed Forces participate in a march past on the Rajpath, displaying our latest military might. The President takes the salute on behalf of the entire nation. All the constituent states of the Indian union showcase their indigenious culture following the march past through artistically designed tableus. The entire nation witnesses this event on the Janpath, as it is broadcast live on the national TV channel. The national tricolour is hosted atop every government buildings and offices. After nightfall, the President’s House at Raisina Hills along with other government buildings are decorated with lighting.
The crown prince of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan will preside over as the chief guest along with a long list of other dignitaries.
